Recipe Cook Book

Improve your diet with a healthy cook book
With the start of a new year upon us once again, many people will be thinking about sorting out their lifestyles and making changes in a bid to get fit, get healthy and hopefully stay that way. It’s not easy to change habits but the fear of failure should never put you off trying something new in the hope of making a change for the better.
Cooking is something that many people are put off trying for fear of failure and making a complete mess. As with everything in life though, learning to cook is about trial and error. You learn from your mistakes and hopefully find different ways to do things. The important thing is not to be scared of messing up and either burning your creation to a cinder or creating an inedible feast that even the dog turns his nose up at.
The best way to get started is by investing in a few healthy cook books which can be your guide and will prove invaluable as you enter the world of healthy cooking. These days there are so many celebrity chefs out there that you’re bound to have heard of a few. If you are trying out cooking for the first time, then it’s probably best not to try and get too adventurous too quickly. Start out with a book of simple recipes that will give you a gentle introduction to the art of cooking and not scare you off.
Cooking healthy meals and spending time in the kitchen should be fun, not a chore. Creating a wholesome meal is a very rewarding thing, as is seeing the looks of surprise on your guests’ faces as they tuck in and realise they won’t have to force the meal down with the backs of their spoons after all.
Going online and buying a few cook books really is the best option, as it will provide you with the gentle introduction that you’ll need. Try your hand at Italian cooking with a homemade pizza, or perhaps go oriental and make a quick and easy stir-fry – whatever style of cooking you decide to have a go at, you’re sure to get full marks from friends and family for effort.

Recipe for Murder: $16.46 Thirty-two great hero-villains of literature lure the reader into the kitchen to sample their signature recipes. Estérelle Payany shares to-die-for recipes inspired by scoundrels from popular literature. Each chapter opens with an excerpt from the original story and quirky illustrations by Jean-François Martin featuring the criminal and his recipe. The Big Bad Wolf roasts three little pigs in their blankets while Snow White’s stepmother concocts bewitching caramel apples. The Queen of Hearts orders Alice to eat treacle tart while Long John Silver stocks the galley with sea biscuits. And although Shakespeare’s infamous Brutus can toss his Caesar salad in a mere ten minutes, Dracula’s paprika hendl is best when simmered from dusk until dawn. It is sure to be a duel to the end between Patrick Bateman’s truffled roast beef and Tom Ripley’s Venetian lemon chicken, but both can be paired nicely with a simple white bean salad from East of Eden’s Cathy Ames. This spirited collection drawing from fairy tales, literary classics, and contemporary favorites is as entertaining as the recipes are scrumptious (and harmless!). And with the winning ingredients in Recipe for Murder—famous literary thrillers and authentic home-style recipes—it would be a crime to pass up this diabolically scrumptious book! Estérelle Payany is a culinary journalist for women’s magazines and author of several cook books. |

Each ingredient and stage of the cooking process is illustrated with a clear color photograph, and the striking, simple design will encourage anyone who lacks confidence at cooking to have a go at producing nutritious, home-cooked food for their family and friends. Every step is clearly explained, with no prior knowledge taken for granted. Even common terms such as ‘finely chopped’ are explained in an illustrated glossary. The recipes, written by a highly experienced food writer with years of expertise in creating simple, foolproof recipes, have each been tested several times to ensure that it is easy to follow. Additional hints and tips are provided on how to choose ingredients, how to rescue a recipe if things go wrong, and how to adapt the dish with different ingredients. Unlike most beginners’ cookbooks, this one does not attempt to teach techniques, such as pastry and bread making: it focuses purely on creating straightforward, enjoyable meals that are easy to cook. The recipes are extremely practical, using ingredients available in any market or supermarket, do not require specialist equipment, and are economical and nutritious. To make it simple to decide what to cook, the recipes are divided into chapters on breakfasts and brunches, light weekday meals and lunches, dishes for sharing, quick and easy suppers, weekend main meals that take longer to cook, and desserts and baking. What to Cook will equip any novice cook with a repertoire of simple, crowd-friendly dishes that they can cook to perfection with confidence. |
